Many are dissatisfied with their lives, where they come from, and where they currently are. And the one thing that pokes at them is that they find their situation “not enough”: the satisfaction, not enough; the connections, not enough; the net worth, not enough; and maybe that job or business, not enough.

But today, I was thinking about the body and how it functions, so intricately connected, with one organ wired to be dependent on the next. And I related it to how the system of success in the world works.

For example, if the excellent nine-to-fiver doesn’t show up at his desk every day, who would bring to life and execute every detail of the founder’s or business owner’s vision? And if the business owner didn’t take that leap, summon the courage to start, and keep growing that business, the nine-to-fiver would have no desk to go to. It got me thinking: we are all important and necessary in making the system work. And a distinction common to those who stand out and succeed in these two groups above the rest is the mentality they have and the significance they accord themselves.

Could it be that the one worried that his life is going nowhere behind a desk, and who is in desperate need of an escape or luck, actually lacks just one thing that the one he envies has, rather than all the things he believes are lacking or not enough? Could it be that the one with more zeros to his name knows what the other doesn’t: I am important. What I do is important. And that very mindset, tucked at the back of the successful person’s brain, influences how the person shows up everyday, through every closed deal, every investment choice, and every financial decision, and ultimately finds a way to show up in their bank account.

Back to the “not enough” mindset that people have. Could it be that people don’t seem to arrive at enough because who they are and what they have are never seen by them as important?

So, I dare to say: if there’s a change in perspective and you see yourself as important, that could be the beginning of the change you need, not just in knowing that you are enough, but in creating more of whatever you want through the opportunities, decisions, and possibilities that viewing yourself and your work as important brings to you.
