Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have begun a four-day visit to Australia that blends charitable engagements with commercial appearances.

On the first day of their trip, the couple interacted with hospital patients and staff, participated in gardening activities, and joined veterans’ children in creative sessions such as pottery. Meghan also visited a women’s refuge, where she served meals and spent time speaking with residents.

Although the visit highlights causes important to the couple, it also includes paid engagements. Prince Harry is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at a summit in Melbourne, where ticket prices range up to A$2,400. Meghan is also expected to participate in a women-focused event in Sydney as part of a wellness weekend experience.

The couple, who stepped down as working royals in 2020, are visiting Australia in a private capacity, and the trip is said to be privately funded. However, questions have been raised about whether public funds may be used for security arrangements during their stay.

They arrived in Melbourne via a commercial flight from Los Angeles, marking their first visit to Australia since their official royal tour in 2018. Unlike that previous visit, no public meet-and-greet events have been scheduled.

During their hospital visit in Melbourne, they met with children undergoing treatment and their families, offering support and engaging warmly with those present. They also took part in a therapeutic gardening session with patients.

The itinerary includes stops in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, combining philanthropic outreach with speaking engagements and private events. While their charitable work remains central, their status as private individuals allows them to participate in revenue-generating activities alongside their advocacy efforts.

The visit is set to conclude with a sporting event in Sydney, followed by Meghan’s appearance at a wellness retreat, where attendees have paid premium fees for participation.

Further details regarding any compensation for their appearances have not been disclosed.
