Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah (Namibia) is a trailblazing stateswoman and seasoned political leader who has spent more than five decades shaping her country’s governance and international standing. Born in 1952 in Onamutai, she joined the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) as a teenager and played an active role in the struggle against apartheid rule, including periods in exile and representing SWAPO across Africa before Namibia’s independence. Since 1990 she has been a long‑serving member of the Namibian National Assembly and has held a series of senior government roles, including deputy minister, minister of women’s affairs and child welfare, information and broadcasting, environment and tourism, minister of international relations and cooperation, and deputy prime minister. In 2017 she became the first woman elected vice president of SWAPO and in December 2024 won the presidential election to become Namibia’s first female president, taking office on 21 March 2025 and continuing her extensive public service career at the highest level of national leadership.
