New York, United States | August 6, 2026 – Bank of America has confirmed the resignation of senior technology executive Ed Liu, who is expected to join a competing financial institution, according to an internal company memorandum circulated on Wednesday.

Liu, who served as Vice Chairman of Technology and Global Head of Software, played a key role in advising technology companies and strengthening the bank’s investment banking relationships within the rapidly evolving technology sector. His departure marks another notable leadership change within one of the world’s largest financial institutions.

Although Bank of America acknowledged Liu’s resignation internally, the bank declined to comment publicly on his next destination. Liu has also not issued a public statement regarding his departure, and the identity of his future employer has yet to be confirmed.

Experienced Technology Banking Leader

Liu joined Bank of America in early 2024, bringing extensive experience in technology investment banking. Before joining the bank, he spent several years at Morgan Stanley, where he served as Co-Head of Americas Technology Banking, advising leading technology firms on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and strategic financial transactions.

Throughout his career, Liu has been recognized for his expertise in the software and technology sectors, making him one of Wall Street’s prominent dealmakers in the industry.

Leadership Changes Continue Across Wall Street

Liu’s resignation comes amid continued movement of senior talent across major U.S. financial institutions as banks compete to strengthen their investment banking franchises, particularly in high-growth sectors such as technology, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.

The announcement follows another recent personnel move involving Bank of America. Just days earlier, Citigroup revealed the appointment of Rohan Sen, who also joined from Bank of America, to lead its coverage of the technology services sector.

These high-profile transitions reflect the increasingly competitive environment among global investment banks seeking experienced executives capable of expanding client relationships and capturing advisory opportunities within the technology industry.

Focus on Technology Banking

Technology remains one of the most strategically important sectors for global investment banks, driven by sustained demand for mergers and acquisitions, venture funding, public offerings, and artificial intelligence-related investments.

As competition for top advisory talent intensifies, institutions continue to recruit seasoned executives with deep industry expertise to strengthen their market position and expand client coverage.

Bank of America has not announced a successor to Liu’s role, and further leadership updates are expected as the bank evaluates its technology banking strategy.
