The fast approaching 2019 elections in Nigeria have given so many people a lot to talk about. The incumbent President, President Muhammadu Buhari and his party APC are trying everything possible to see that they retain the seat come 2019. This is going to be quite a battle for them as they have a lot of convincing to do and promises to make. However word on the street is that a very large number of Nigerians are not keen on seeing him retain that position because his first tenure leaves a lot to be desired. Now, here lies the issue, if they do not vote him, who then would they vote?
The aspirants for the position of the President of Nigeria are largely divided into 2 groups. On one hand, we have the old cabals which are made up of the same old timers that have been shuffling the corridors of leadership in Nigeria for over 20 years most notable among them being Atiku Abubakar. On the other hand, is a fresh set of candidates most of whom have not taken up any public office post in the past. These fresh candidates are known as the Youth Revolutionaries.
How do Nigerians feel about them?
70 percent of Nigerians are very skeptical of the Youth Revolutionaries and their ability to do a good job. They would rather vote in the same old politicians into power. Their reservations stem from the fact that they believe these new age politicians are a lot more dangerous to the wellbeing of the country perhaps because of their youth and lack of experience . The other 30 percent believe that the Nation needs a drastic change in leadership that would only come from a different leadership pace which they believe can be provided by the Youth revolutionary of their choice. However this might never happen as most Nigerians do not feel they can get quality leadership from them.
They may support the youth revolutionaries but they most likely will not vote them.
50 percent of the supporters of the new revolution are still on the fence about voting for the candidate of their choice and this is because they feel that their votes would make more of an impact if it is concentrated on a particular aspirant rather than spread in small quantities over so many different aspirants. They agree that having just one candidate among the Youth revolutionaries would give them a better chance at winning. On the other hand, the remaining 50 percent would rather vote in one of the old politicians preferably Atiku Abubakar simply because they are certain that he has what it takes to unseat the incumbent president.
As much as Nigerians have a lot of dreams and hope for the upcoming elections, unseating the incumbent President is of more importance to them than voting in the man of their choice.
