Selma Malika Haddadi (Algeria) is a veteran diplomat and legal expert who currently serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, having been elected to the position during the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2025. She has built a distinguished career in diplomacy over more than two decades, holding key leadership roles including Algeria’s Ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Director General for Africa at Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at Algeria’s Embassy in Ethiopia and to the African Union, where she strengthened bilateral and continental partnerships. Earlier in her career she coordinated social development initiatives, managed refugee affairs, and contributed to global policy discussions as part of Algeria’s mission to the United Nations in Geneva, underscoring her deep experience in legal, humanitarian, and political affairs. Her election to AU leadership reflects broad confidence in her strategic vision for advancing unity, governance, and Africa’s development agenda at the continental level.
