World News 2018 Komla Dumor award, 2015 winner of the Mo Amin
Africa award and 2012 winner of the CNN Multi-choice Africa award. Currently Waihiga is the lead Presenter for the BBC’s flagship show
Focus on Africa engaged in daily strong analysis that helps audiences understand and make sense of big news stories from the continent, from African perspectives to relevant global stories, and probing interviews with high-profile personalities. In this role he has interviewed Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, former US Sec. of State Anthony Blinken,
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan and former South African Vice President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka amongst other notable personalities. Waihiga has moderated panel discussions on varied topics in Nairobi, New York, Lagos and London for the BBC, the United Nations & the London School of Economics. He is also a keynote speaker with nuanced understanding of the African media scene and in July 2019 gave a presentation for Chatham House in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia. Over the last 10 years he has reported from Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Togo, Ethiopia,Uganda, Rwanda, London, Rome and the US.
Career interests include governance, global politics, public policy, international relations and youth employment. He believes that Africa needs more investigative journalism balanced with solutions-focused journalism so as to prosper.
